All Saturdays are offered guided tours of the nesting area of Freira da Madeira. Visitors are framed and accompanied on a tour that got its start by 13.00 ( new time ) in the center Freira da Madeira Rui Silva, following a short course of 30 minutes to the viewpoint of the Nest of Manta , in order to view the nesting habitat nun – the – Madeira. The visit will end by 14:30.

Guided tours take place with a minimum of 5 entries. Registration will be made ​​until the Thursday prior to the desired date, and the visit confirmed, via email, on Friday .

Guided visits to the Center Freira da Madeira have no associated cost of time , because we all like to know a little more work .

The Center Freira da Madeira – Rui Silva is a hub of information, interpretation and reception of visitors and is located in Pico Megrim on the island of Madeira.

Peak Megrim belongs to the municipality of Funchal, being one of the most visited places on the island thanks to its easy access , or can be done by car. With 1818 m altitude is the third highest peak of the island, after the Pico Ruivo ( 1861m ) and Pico das Torres ( 1851 m ) .


History

This Centre was established in 2012 and aims to improve the reception conditions for tourists and residents who visit the Peak Megrim , disseminating and promoting the natural heritage of the region , highlighting the various protected areas and the biodiversity.

The name comes from the center associated with seabird endemic to Madeira, nun – the – Madeira, as it is in the area of ​​Megrim that this bird nests and consequently is where are all developed conservation work.

You also linked to Rui Silva , in homage for being the pioneer of mountaineering and climbing in the region.


The Center, like other centers managed by the Natural Park of Madeira , aims to contribute to self-sustainability of biodiversity conservation efforts and the promotion of a strategy of information and communication, which is reflected in the existence of a population even more informed, proactive and able to enjoy, from the point of view of tourism or the economic point of view, a balanced natural assets.

This space was created with support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, through ADRAMA.

Business hours

The Center Freira da Madeira – Rui Silva is open to the entire population every day from 9am to 17.30h , except 1st January, Easter Sunday, December 25 .
Given the support the Vigilante Nature provides monitoring of groups of visitors , researchers in the protected area or conditioned by weather conditions , the Centre may be temporarily closed.

Visiting the center

The Freira da Madeira Center – Rui Silva has a permanent exhibit , dynamic and interactive , alluding to the Freira da Madeira and their habitat .
It also has other facilities such as :
Nucleus biographical museum and one who was the pioneer of mountaineering and climbing in the region , Dr. Rui Silva ;
Tour the Visitor information and guidance ;

Accompanying interpretive tours and leisure

In addition to visiting the center , this area has the opportunity to move to the nest by Manta footpath .
The visit lasts approximately 1 hour 30 minutes , running up about 1.5 Km ( outward and return ) .
