Madeira considered one of “10 best islands in the world”
Madeira the pearl of the Atlantic!
Placing sixth, Madeira is one of the only two European islands on the list, alongside Santorini (Greece).
Portugal’s beautiful Madeira Island has been considered one of the “10 best islands in the world” by visitors of travel website Tripadvisor.

“The capital city of Funchal was settled in the 15th century and is a colourful collection of gardens, religious sites, and quirky tourist attractions like the thatched-roof Madeira Story Centre,” the website says.
TripAdvisor recommends hiking the summit of Pico Ruivo (pictured) to “feel like you’ve climbed through the clouds”, or simply “unwind over a glass of Madeira wine, a historic fortified beverage that’s musky and subtly sweet”.
The full list of the best islands is as follows:
1. Providenciales (Turks and Caicos)
2. Maui (Hawaii, USA)
3. Roatan (Honduras)
4. Santorini (Greece)
5. Ko Tao (Thailand)
6. Madeira (Portugal)
7. Bali (Indonesia)
8. Mauritius
9. Bora Bora (French Polynesia)
10. Fernando de Noronha (Brazil)
