December marks the highliht of all of the regional events, which culminates with New Year celebrations.
This festive season commonly known as “A Festa” celebrates the arrival of Christmas season, a particular festive season which is lived intensely with a special feeling by the people of Madeira, until January 6th.
Madeira Dig Festival | Ponta do Sol and Calheta
December, 6th to 9th
The Ponta do Sol Inn and the Casa das Mudas Arts Centre will be hosting this cultural event, an avant-garde voyage through the world of serious new contemporary music.
.The “Madeira Dig Festival” is a noteworthy cultural initiative of high quality that promotes Madeira as an attractive tourist destination for a young and active audience.
Both internationally and nationally acclaimed artists and DJ´s will be taking part in the 2013 edition of this event, including the group Most People Have Been Trained to Be Bored (PT),, and the artists Pharmakon (US), Tarik Barri (NL), William Basinski (US), Emptyset (UK), Grouper (US), Pierce Warnecke (US), amongst others.
8th Edition ‘Madeiran Traditional Delicacies’ Exhibition | Boaventura

This gastronomic event is held annually in the village of Fajã do Penedo, parish of Boaventura located in the municipality of São Vicente.
This feast intends to promote Madeira´s typical Christmas traditions and culinary delicacies.
Christmas and New Year Festivities| Funchal
December, 8th to January 6th
In Madeira, Christmas and New Year celebrations offer a program filled with a variety of religious, ethnographic and artistic events that fill the down town area of Funchal with joy, music, colour and light.
The beginning of the Christmas and New Year program include an array of entertaining activities which culminates with the spectacular New Year’s fireworks display at the amphitheatre of the Funchal bay, spectacle officially recognized by the Guinness World Records, in 2006, as the largest fireworks display in the world.

II Madeira Micro International Film Festival | Ponta do Sol
December, 12th to 14th
The 2nd edition of the Madeira Micro International Film Festival will taking place between December 12th to 14th,, at Cine Sol building located at Ponta do Sol.
This cinematographic festival is held in collaboration of various organizations such as Estalagem da Ponta do Sol premises and the European cultural marketing company Digital Berlin, a festival, which will also include some workshops.
54th Edition Tour of the city of Funchal– S. Silvestre´s Race | Funchal
Promoted by Madeira Athletics Association the Tour of the City of Funchal is considered one of the oldest races of its kind, in Portugal and Europe, a sports competition which has captivated several national and international athletes to the island, bringing lots of adrenaline to the downtown area of the island capital.
